There are two huge magnolia trees along our usual walk through Rock Creek Park. Oliver loves to play with the pile of sticks under the trees, giving me some time to take a few photos before he makes a run for the road or the creek.

I got a 50/1.4 Canon autofocus lens for Christmas. I prefer the feel of old manual lenses, but for following kids and cats around auto is the way to go. I also have a nice 28-135 auto zoom lens, but the 50/1.4 lets me get a lot of shots without using an obnoxious flash.
Kitties of Williamsburg
We went to Williamsburg after Christmas. We’ve gone once before, so maybe it’s a tradition? These kitties were hanging out near the visitor center – looked like they were waiting for their regular feeding.
Backlit maple leaves
More maple leaves! These are from last month – they’ve all since fallen to the ground. I am way too lazy to rake them up, but when dad came to visit he raked them to the curb and the vacuum shredder truck took them away to become compost.
Orange maple leaves
More leaves! I think I waited too long for the Japanese maple leaves in the yard, but maybe I’ll take a couple of shots of them on the ground before raking them up.
