Little red helicopters

A bunch of bright red samaras on our red maple tree in the backyard. Shot with the Vivitar 135/2.8 screw-mount lens that I found in Baltimore.

ECB

An Eastern carpenter bee hovering in the backyard. We’ve got a little colony of them living in the wooden deck railing. They’re a little obnoxious – buzzing us when we’re trying to nap in the sun, but they’ve never stung.

The Cape Roman

It seems like there are always a couple of tug boats hanging around at Fells Point in Baltimore. I took this with a Yashinon 35/2.8 that I also got at Hampden Junque. I think it’s pretty similar to my 35/3.5 Super-Takumar, but the wider max aperture makes for easier focusing and nicer bokeh. I don’t like the feel of Yashinon lenses much – the focus and aperture grips on Super-Takumar lenses are hard to beat.

Green stars

I found a sweet 135/2.8 Vivitar lens at Hampden Junque in Baltimore last weekend. I haven’t taken a lot of photos with it yet, but it looks like it worked fine on these maple leaves.

Fire alarm box

There are quite a few of these old fire alarm boxes around town. I don’t think any of them do anything anymore, but most that I’ve seen look like they’re painted now and then.
